Busy

Sorry about the lack of reviews.  We have just been so busy with the influx of people that business has been wonderfully busy.  We have posted a few more listings of newer titles and hopefully we can get some more up there as time permits.  We still enjoy watching and discussing movies with our patrons in the store.  Ask about what is new and review a good selection of old in our Main Street location in Watford City.  As always, Happy Renting!

The 5th Quarter

The 5th Quarter is one of those tear jerking dramas that keeps you crying through the whole movie.  Based on a true story, Quinn and MacDowell play the parents of a young man who dies at an unfortunate young age.  His family is faced with the decision of donating his organs to others.  The story leads on with how the family copes with such a tragedy and finds healing in the brothers role on his college football team.

I give this one a 5 for one of the best drama’s I have seen in a while.  You will definitly want to rent this one if you are a fan of dramas.

Skateland

Skateland is about a kid who doesn’t really know what he wants to do with his life.  His job is about to go under and his friends are all in changing lifestyles and he hasn’t decided what his path is.  As he tries to figure it out his girlfriend tries to help the best she can.  To be honest with you it was pretty slow and somewhat unentertaining.  To much bland drama for my taste I guess.  If you like young adult dramatics this would be a pretty decent flick to watch.

I give it a 3 as it is pretty audience specific.  Rent it today to see for yourself.

Prom

Prom was another one of your every day teeny bopper movies.  Hey doesn’t that dude look like Johnny Depp about 20 years ago?  Anyway, the same with all these types of movies, you have a girl that wants to put it all together for prom and a bunch of mishaps occur that place her with the “bad boy” trying to get prom put back together again.  It has a few sideline relationships that are having their own problems but all in all it is a good spirited family flick.

I give it a 4 for all around good family movie.  Rent it today to see for yourself.

Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs. Evil

Hoodwinked Too is a spinoff/continuation of the original Hoodwinked.  It has Red training to be a secret agent and following in the footsteps of her Granny.  The cast of characters returns as the Wolf, Twitch and my favorite, The singing goat take you on a ride as Red cuts her training short to save Hansel and Gretel from the evil witch and thwart her plans to steal a secret recipe.

I give this one a 4 for good old fashion family fun.  Rent it today to see for yourself.

Priest

Priest is another graphic novel adaptation.  If features Bettany as a run down hero from the last vampire wars.  He must break his vow to the church when he finds out his niece is captuted by vampires, claimed by the church to no longer exist.  This is actually a pretty graphically appealing movie.  The action and CGI are all pretty decent.  If you are into comic ports this one may be worth the watch.

I give it a 5 as it is visually stimulating and holds the attention.  Rent it today to see for yourself.

Country Strong

Country Strong is a decent drama about a group of musicians that go on tour after the star of the show publicly humiliates herself.  The drama unfolds and romances spark. This one may be a little difficult for little people to follow so it may not work well for a family film but the story line is pretty decent.  I didn’t even recognize McGraw but his acting was pretty decent as well.

I give this one a 4 for decent story line. Rent it today to see for yourself.

Goodnight for Justice

Goodnight for Justice is this week’s Western/Family pick.  Perry plays a washed up lawyer that is put into a politically corrupt district as Circuit Court Judge, to set some things straight.  He intends to be just and tries not to let his past interfere with his judgment.

This is a good family film with not a lot of violence.

I give this one a 4 for good morale.  Rent it today to see for yourself.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of Dawn Treader

Add this one as a peg in the hole for The Chronicles.  The imagery and CG was generally fascinating as were the others in the series.  It evolves the plot a little more and you come to expect that they will continue to follow the books.

This is a good Family film and a recommended view if you enjoyed the others in the series.

I give this one a 5 for family enjoyment.  Rent it today to see for yourself.

Tron

Tron is a movie that will make you recall a future classic, The Matrix.  It is similar in the fact that they are both relating human insertion into a computer program with artificial intelligence.  I am a huge fan of The Matrix trilogy up until the final one due to some discrepancies, but Tron talks the cake as it not only appeals to techies but to old school gamers as well.  Don’t tell me you have never played Tron in the arcade.  If you haven’t you need to get back to the 80′s for some serous pop culture education.  So in essence, tie some gaming and some tech talk together, check out the Linux terminal clips, and wrap your head around some Tron.

I give it a 5. Rent it today and insert yourself into some truly fascinating fantasy.
