Little Fockers

Little Fockers was the same as the other ones.  If you dig Stiller’s comedy then you will enjoy this one the same as well.  The sense of humor is not for everyone as I personally don’t follow or enjoy these movies, but they do get very good reviews for fans of Wilson and Stiller.

I give this movie a 3 as I am not impress with this type of humor. If you liked the first 2 then this is a good follow-up. Rent it today to see for yourself.

Tangled

Tangled is this weeks family film.  It is the adventure of Rapunzel, a fairytale princess who is kept in a tower to “protect” her from anyone cutting her hair, that has the power to heal and revive youth.  The horse and Ryder are very entertaining with their antics.  Again you get the music and song of Disney with the help of Moore, the voice of Rapunzel.  This was a decent flick for all ages

I give it a 5 for family film.  Rent it today to see for yourself.

Black Swan

Black Swan is one of those movies you watch through and when you get to the end you say “Wow, what just happened?” and then you have to watch it again to pay closer attention.  Portman plays the role of a dancer hell bound on perfection.  Her adamant goal to perform at the top as the Swan Queen drives her sanity to the edge.  She feels, breaths and lives to be the Swan Queen and she will stop at nothing to have the ultimate performance.  It stresses the values of professional dancers and what they will put themselves through to appease the audience, director, or themselves, depending on who’s opinions they value.

This movie had a little of everything and performance wise, I believe it earned a 5.  Rent it today to see for yours

All Good Things

All Good Things is based on actual events that took place around a real-estate tycoon in the late 70′s to early 80′s.  It revolves around the disappearance of the wife of a man that was very mysterious.  Gosling plays the role of Robert Durst who was suspected but never tried for killing his wife portrayed by Dunst.  This one makes you think what really did happen to her.  A control freak with nothing but greed and the family business drives a man to do insane acts that reflect his childhood past.

I give this one a 4 as it was a little slow and sometimes boring but had a good plot twist and storyline.  Rent it today to see what you think.

Dead Awake

Dead Awake is not some morbid excuse for a zombie movie as the title/cover art would insinuate.  It is actually a pretty decent rendition of an afterlife story.  It was kind of a low budget film but it made up for it by providing good explanation of the theory it was trying to portray.  It was a cross between a love story and a crime drama.

I give it a 4.  Rent it today to see what death or life had installed for who.

The Resident

The Resident is a story about a doctor, Swank, that has recently separated from her ex and decides to move into a new apartment in New York.  She feels she is not alone.  I feel the movie gave away to much information off the cuff and then it kind of made the rest of the movie drag out.  It seemed as though you knew what was going to happen for a long time before it played out.  There is some short nudity scenes and some sexual perversion, but the suspense portions were pretty decent.  It really makes you think about wanting to move into an old apartment building by yourself.

I give this one a 4 because the story line or idea was great it was just drug out to long.  Rent it today to find out for yourself.

Fair Game

Fair Game is another flick about the after effects of 911.  Watts portrays a CIA agent that is outed due to the strong words of her husband, Penn a journalist with a strong word.  I don’t have a lot to say about this one as I hate the fact we take a national tragedy and keep dragging it on through the creation of films but it does make you think about the consequences of government actions and what some people will do to cover mistakes.  If you liked Green Zone this movie is along the same lines.

I give it a 3 for repetition of events.  You can rent it today to see for yourself.

Skyline

Skyline takes the cake as this weeks sci-fi film.  What the heck was this all about anyway.  First off you got that goof ball from Scrubs in here.  Then you got people being pulled up from earth into these giant space ships.  Then you got this weird blue light that I guess everybody is attracted to. I mean hey I like laser lights too, don’t get me wrong.  But the whole movie goes terribly wrong at the end.  This was one of those movies where you really get into it and then they seem like they just didn’t know how to end it so they give you some lame excuse for an ending a you go HU?  Anyway, I finished watching the movie and for some weird reason I got the urge to play Doom or watch Duane Johnson’s attempt at making it a movie.  To get back on course I guess this movie could have ended better but it was a pretty decent alien invasion film in it’s own right.

I give it a 4 for visual appeal but it miss a total 5 for lack of a quality ending.  Rent it today and avoid the pretty blue light.

The Tourist

The Tourist will get you going.  This is one of those mystery spy movies that keeps you thinking even if you know what is about to happen you want to know how.  Jolie plays a woman looking for the return of her wanted boyfriend/lover.  He sends her a note to pick up a man on a train headed toward Italy  that is the same height and build as he is and make the cops that are trailing her, think that this man is him.  She comes across Depp who plays the unknowing math teacher from the States that is on a Euro-trip.  At times I felt just as confused as Bettany, the detective from Scotland Yard that is on the case.  Oh, by the way we have a film where Bettany remains totally clothed through every seen he is in.  The Tourist will make you second guess yourself.

I give this one a 4 as it starts a little slow but gets much better in the second half.  Rent it today to see for yourself.

Yogi Bear

Yogi Bear is another great example of an old cartoon turned into a cross over real/animation.   Aykroyd does a pretty decent job of imitating the old Yogi that I remember from the cartoons.  And Boo Boo, that I thought was going to be botched by the form member of ‘N Sync, Timberlake, turned out to be excellent.  Brought you back to the good old days of Yogi scheming to steal a pick a nick basket. The idea of a cross over film usually turns me off due to the poorness of the animated side, but they actually did pretty decent with this one.  There where a few scenes that look like the human actor is not looking where they should be but other then that it was pretty decent.

I give this one a 4. Don’t take my word for it, rent Yogi Bear today.
